Italy Shines in Nove Mesto: 9 Medals at the European Para-Archery Cup Finals

In Nove Mesto, Italy won 9 medals at the finals of the European Para-Archery Cup. The Azzurri took home 7 golds, three only in the mixed teams, one silver and one bronze.

Gold medal for Elisabetta Mijno who in the final beat the Polish Milena Olszweska 6-0 without any problem, taking home three sets in a row 29-27, 28-26 and 28-23. Silver instead for Stefano Travisani who lost 6-2 to the Frenchman Guillaume Toucoullet, the archers shared the first two sets (28-27 and 28-25), but then the transalpine accelerated with a 28-25 and a 27-26 which they are worth the first step of the podium.

Matteo Bonacina wins the gold at the end of a long battle, winning 142-141 against the Finnish Jere Forsberg. The blue sees his opponent start very strong and move ahead by three points after the first six arrows (29-27 and 29-28), but after the 29-29 of the third volley everything is reversed and Bonacina overtakes with two 29s -27 in a row. Bronze for Eleonora Sarti who beats the Polish Ksenia Markitantova 143-139, in this case it is the Italian athlete who starts better by taking the lead in the first three sets (28-28, 28-27 and 30-27), the Polish tries to make a comeback with 30-28 of the fourth volley but Sarti responds immediately with 29-27 of the fifth and final set.

Gold in the play-off for Asia Pellizzari in the final against the archer from the Czech Republic Sarka Pultar Mesimova. After the balance of the first two sets, the Italian took the lead 28-25, but then recovered with a 24-23 and a 25-23 which sent the match back to the shoot-off, but here Pellizzari made the difference with a arrow on 10 for the final 123-123 (10-9). In the last final of the day Paolo Tonon also won gold with 138-134 over the Hungarian Gaspar. The blue takes the lead 28-25, then is almost caught again (26-28) while the third set is interlocutory (27-27) The fourth volley is that of the decisive extension with Tonon’s 29-24 which nullifies the 30-28 in favor of Gaspar in the last set.

Italy takes it all among the mixed teams with three golds in three finals. In the recurve Mijno and Travisani beat France 6-0 (Benhami, Toucoullet), in the compoud shoot-off success for Sarti and Bonacina 152-152 (19-18) against Great Britain (Paterson Pine, Harris) and in the W1 victory 136 -131 for Pellizzari and Tonon against the Czech Republic (Musilova, Davidek).
