Referee Tantashev Ilgiz’s decision to approve Iraq’s second goal made the Indonesian national team furious. Manager Endri Erawan also sent a strong protest to the Asian Football Federation (AFC).

Indonesia started its journey in Group D of the Asian Cup against Iraq, Monday (15/1/2024). In the duel at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium, Indonesia lost 1-3.

There was great disappointment from Indonesia regarding Iraq’s second goal scored by Osama Rashid. Before the goal occurred, there was chaos in the Indonesian penalty box and it smelled like offside.

VAR had time to review it, but instead the match referee decided to award the goal to Iraq. Endri did not accept this.

“After the match, we officially protested strongly to the AFC regarding the approval of Iraq’s second goal. We have officially submitted a protest form and submitted it directly to the match commissioner after the match,” said Endri to reporters covering the Asian Cup, including detikSport.

Endri realized that the protest could not change the result of the match. He just wants the steps taken to be used as material for AFC corrections regarding the referee’s performance.

“We know that this protest will not change the result of the match, but at least for the next matches the match apparatus can be better at making decisions,” emphasized Endri.
