Implementing New Year’s Resolutions at the New Year’s Randori: A Tradition in Swabia

With the New Year’s Randori, New Year’s resolutions can be implemented straight away. A varied training session is on the agenda, followed by sweaty randoris.

The New Year’s Randori has long been a tradition in Swabia and is always well attended. This year there are 40 judo-loving athletes on the mat. The event is organized by the Friedberg judo team, who invite you to their brand new judo hall.

The judoka in Swabia don’t need to be told twice; training starts at 10 a.m. with floor technique. The aim of the technique is to attack the training partner from the bench position and force him to give up with the “Juji-gatame” armbar. In general, successes quickly become apparent, but that is not enough for the trainers. Sebastian Mayr, Florian Mayr and Arthur Sipple show improvements and sticking points in the technology.

After the first training session there is a short break before continuing standing. Here the focus is on speed and endurance. The judoka from the various Swabian clubs compete at the Randoris for a full 45 minutes. Florian Mayr is enthusiastic: “This year I want to really win at the upcoming competitions, so the New Year’s Randori is the perfect preparation. You can start with your New Year’s resolutions right away!”
