“I would love to stay at Feyenoord this season”

The birth of the brand new streaming platform ‘Feyenoord ONE’ kicked off on Wednesday evening in Villa Thalia with the premiere of the documentary “Gimenez”. The Mexican top striker has recently been followed by a camera crew and gave a unique insight into his special life.

Gimenez is very proud after the premiere, he tells us ESPN. “I’m very happy and very satisfied. The documentary shows a small part of my life and what we are like from day to day. If you could, you could have used thousands more videos, but you can see who we are.” By ‘we’ Gimenez refers to himself and his fiancée Fernanda Serrano. She follows Gimenez closely. “I’ve always said that Santi has a very special mind. Because he knows how to distinguish very well between his career and his family. I don’t think everyone in the world is able to get that separation so clear. He also has a very good connection with his own spirituality, that helps him.”

There’s a lot riding on Gimenez. The only 22-year-old Feyenoord player is extremely popular at Het Legioen, but he is also the crowd favorite in Mexico. Yet Feyenoord does not have to worry that Gimenez will miss his shoes. “He is a stoic boy who knows what he wants. He is a hard worker and a real team player. He works hard every day to get better. We don’t need him back-to-earth “, says John de Wolf, who was also present at the premiere. Gimenez himself also thinks that the popularity has not yet gone to his head. “I have always said: I like to have both feet on the ground. I don’t feel superior to others, I see the team as a family. I don’t feel like the popular one. I’m just part of the family.”

The documentary mainly looks at the time Santi has had at Feyenoord so far. But the supporters are also thinking about a possible transfer of the top striker. “I don’t know if I will stay in Rotterdam this season. I still have a contract and I would love it. But anything can happen. In football there is never certainty about what will happen in the future, but I would love it to stay at Feyenoord.”
