VIVA – Indonesian National Team coach, Shin Tae-yong, opened his voice after his team was defeated by Japan in the final Group D match of the 2023 Asian Cup. Indonesia lost 1-3 in the match which took place at Al Thumama Stadium, Doha, Wednesday 24 January 2024.
The Japanese national team took the lead in this match thanks to a pair of goals from Ayase Ueda and an own goal from Justin Hubner. Meanwhile, the Indonesian national team reduced their position thanks to Sandy Walsh’s goal.
With this victory, the Japanese national team is certain to qualify for the round of 16 as runners up in group D. Meanwhile, the Indonesian national team had to settle for finishing in third place. Indonesia is waiting for the fate of the other teams’ matches to qualify for the round of 16.
Even though they lost, Shin Tae-yong admitted that he was proud of the Indonesian National Team. It cannot be denied, Indonesia is one of the weakest teams in the Asian Cup if you look at the FIFA rankings.

“Indonesia is currently ranked 146th, but if you look at the reality of the game, it actually doesn’t match our current FIFA ranking,” he continued.
Furthermore, Shin emphasized that in the 2023 Asian Cup, Indonesia will appear as the team with the youngest squad. Therefore, the Garuda squad will continue to develop in the future.
“And I want to convey that my team is the youngest team and gaining experience playing against the best teams in Asia will help us continue to develop,” he said.
