Grigor Dimitrov Claims ATP 250 de Brisbane Title After Defeating Holger Rune

Best way to start the season? Impossible. The Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov (No. 14 in the ATP ranking) defeated the Dane Holger Rune (No. 8) by 7-6 (5) and 6-4 to stay with the ATP 250 de Brisbane.

Dimitrov displayed his best tennis all week. His victims were Andy Murray (N°42), Daniel Altmaier (N°56), Rinky Hijikata (N°71), Jordan Thompson (No. 55) and Rune, mentioned above. He barely lost a set during his five matches.

The 32-year-old player, former world No. 3, won his ninth ATP title: Stockholm, Acapulco, Bucharest, Queen’s, Sofia, Cincinnati, ATP Finals and Brisbane (X2). The most curious thing is that, despite his excellent talent, it was his first trophy since 2017.

Dimitrov had been warning at the end of 2023 that he was recovering his best level. He was a semi-finalist in Shanghai and a finalist in Paris, the last two Masters 1000s of last season. This new year he started it in the same way and he already had the desired prize.

As for the ranking, he rose only one position to be the new No. 13 in the world. In any case, it is worth noting that he is less than 200 points behind Alex De Minaur, the last member of the Top 10. Will it be Dimitrov’s year?
