Golden State Warriors, the crowd boos. Curry: “I understand.” Thompson: “I don’t care”

The Golden State Warriors were booed at the Chase Center during their heavy loss to the New Orleans Pelicans.

The boos started early, as the Pelicans took a 19-point lead thanks to some open three-pointers. This is the second time this has happened.

Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Kevon Looney talked about it during the post-game press conference. The reactions were different.

“I don’t even know what to say about it because I don’t want to be a prisoner of the moment and I understand.” Curry told reporters. “There is nothing to celebrate about, so it is obvious that those who celebrate are also those who boo. I don’t take it a certain way. Honestly, in my head I’m booing myself, booing our team for the way we’re playing. This is how things are, the fans react as they want. Our job is to give them something to cheer about and we haven’t done that.”

Klay Thompson was incredibly blunt when asked how he handled the boos: “I don’t care,” Thompson said. “Should I lose sleep over this?”

Looney took a similar line to Curry, understanding that fans’ frustration is justified by the lackluster way the Warriors have played during this turbulent period of the season.

“It sucks, but we played like we deserved it, so we can’t get mad.” Looney told reporters. “The fans hold us in high regard, we have created a high standard here, so we have to go out there and compete and play better. We have the talent and the pieces to be better and we have to go out there and prove it.”

With injuries to Chris Paul and Gary Payton II and the fallout from Draymond Green’s indefinite suspension, the Warriors have been struggling to find even a modicum of consistency in recent weeks, with their latest defeat dropping them to 17th -20 this season.
