German Tennis Talent Tessa Johanna Brockmann Reaches Final for First Time

Tessa Johanna Brockmann is probably only known to insiders of the German tennis scene, but what the 18-year-old is currently conjuring up on the court suggests that that could soon change. In Monastir, Tunisia, the DTB hopeful reached a final for the first time in her career.

As strong as the big players on the tour, Tessa Johanna Brockmann defeated the 17-year-old Moroccan Malak El Allami 7:6 and 7:6 on Saturday. In the final, the German will now face Amelie Smejakova from the Czech Republic, who won without a fight against Poland’s Malwina Rowinska.

Smejakova, who is only ranked 1104th in the world rankings, is just as surprisingly in the final of the W15 event as Brockmann, who will collect her first points for the WTA rankings.

Striking: Brockmann has only appeared sporadically in professional tournaments in her career, but has not yet won a single game. In 2024 that changed radically.

German tennis talent hopes for his first tournament victory

In Monastir, the third-place finisher at the 2023 German Junior Championships fought her way through qualification with victories against Jiale Zhang (6:2, 6:2) and Chahd Berriri (6:0, 6:2). This was followed by a three-set win over the Romanian Isabella Serban and a 6:0 and 7:5 against the eighth-seeded Brazilian Luana Plaza Araujo (number 967 in the world rankings).

In the quarter-finals she set the first real highlight of her career by defeating the top-seeded Frenchwoman Yasmine Mansouri (number 471 in the world rankings) in Monastir with 6:4, 4:6 and 6:4. The win against El Allami now even nourishes the hope of their first title.

By reaching the final, Brockmann also secured her first points for the world rankings. If she prevails against Smejakova, it would even be ten.
