Former NBA Star Wes Iwundu Shines in Lower Saxony as Rasta Vechta Player

He played 236 games in the best basketball league in the world and was on the field with superstar Luka Doncic (24) for the Dallas Mavericks. Now ex-NBA star Wes Iwundu (29) has landed in the Lower Saxony province – and is astonishing the easyCredit BBL with newly promoted Rasta Vechta.

On Sunday (5 p.m., WELT TV live), the Veolia Towers Hamburg come to the sold-out Rasta Dome for the northern derby – the winner has a chance of making the play-offs.

The winger (1.98 meters) emphasizes: “I think we have a good chance of making the play-offs.” And adds: “I feel very comfortable here.”

Bling-bling and extra sausages are not his thing. “I would never have expected how happy he is with every positive action with the team given his NBA experience,” said Rasta boss Stefan Niemeyer (63) in the “BIG Postgame” podcast. “When I heard who was coming to us, I thought to myself, hopefully they also have the motivation to play here! I’m really pleased with the attitude this man has.”

Iwundu is also a humble guy off the field. In the BBL’s social media format “Five Things” he just revealed how he prefers to spend his free time.

“I really enjoy playing with Yu-Gi-Oh! cards,” says Iwundu. Japanese manga cards are particularly used when traveling away on buses or planes. After training, he likes to play video games (“Fortnite,” “Grand Theft Auto”) at home. The Texan also enjoys watching cooking shows and reading (“Hunger Games”).

His only extravagance is fashion! Because this is difficult in Vechta, Iwundu occasionally travels to the big city, Hamburg.
