Football: Still injured, Haaland will not play again before the end of January with Manchester City

This is a hard blow which is confirmed for Manchester City. Engaged in an exciting fight for the Premier League title, the Citizens, currently third, five points behind leader Liverpool, will still have to do without their serial scorer Erling Haaland for a few weeks. Sidelined since December 6 and his team’s defeat at Aston Villa (1-0), the Norwegian international suffers from a stress fracture in his right foot and was due to return in January. It will ultimately be postponed.

“I hope it will be ready by the end of January. It was a little more than we expected at the beginning,” revealed Skyblues coach Pep Guardiola. “He’s doing well, but the doctors decided to take him off for an (additional) week. It’s the bone that is affected and it takes time,” confirmed the Spanish technician.

Haaland will miss Newcastle and Tottenham

Co-top scorer in the Premier League, tied with Mohamed Salah (14 goals), the striker will therefore miss the Newcastle reception scheduled for this Saturday as part of the 21st day of the championship and should also be too short for the shock of the 4th FA Cup round against Tottenham on January 27.

On the other hand, Guardiola will be able to count on his other offensive leader, Kevin De Bruyne, who returned to competition last weekend against Huddersfield. Injured with an ischium since the first day against Burnley on August 11, the Belgian midfielder is applying for a place in the eleven against the Magpies.
