Former Argentina international Ricardo Gareca, 65, has been appointed coach of the Chilean national football team, the Federation has announced.
Gareca, former Peru coach, will have the task of leading La Roja during the 2024 Copa America (20 June-16 July) and the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. He succeeds his compatriot Eduardo Berizzo who resigned last November. After six days of the World Cup qualifying tournament, Chile is eighth with 5 points, tied with Paraguay (seventh). The top six will qualify for the finals in Canada, the United States and Mexico (11 June-19 July 2026), while the seventh will play an intercontinental play-off.
