Munich/Berlin (dpa) – The German basketball cup winners FC Bayern Munich have confirmed their strong form in the Bundesliga and clearly defeated the former series champions Bamberg Baskets.

The Munich team led by ex-NBA professional Serge Ibaka won in their own hall with 91:69 ​​(44:39) and thus secured their seventh league success in a row. Ibaka (16 points) and Sylvain Francisco (17) were the best throwers from coach Pablo Laso’s team. Bayern and Bamberg will also meet in the cup semi-finals on February 17th, then again in Munich.

Meanwhile, Alba Berlin has stopped the Würzburg Baskets’ winning streak. The capital city team won 90:82 (42:37). Würzburg had previously strung together seven wins in a row and had not lost a league game since November.

On Saturday, promoted team Rasta Vechta had already provided another sporting exclamation mark in the unusual top game. The Lower Saxony team won 106:102 after extra time at Ratiopharm Ulm, inflicting their fourth defeat of the season on the German champions.
