FC Barcelona reached the final of the Spanish Super Cup on Thursday. The club won 2-0 against Osasuna in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and will play against arch-rival Real Madrid in the final on Sunday.

FC Barcelona and Osasuna were certainly not convincing in front of 25,000 spectators in the KSU Stadium. Coach Xavi’s team had dominance with Frenkie de Jong in the starting line-up, but did not really exploit that against Spain’s number twelve.

After 59 minutes of play, Robert Lewandowski changed that. The striker completed a pass from Ilkay Gündogan excellently with a slider into the short corner. Osasuna claimed a foul in the run-up to the goal, but the VAR did not agree.

The highlight of the evening only came in injury time. João Félix beautifully played an opponent through the legs and then served sixteen-year-old substitute Lamine Yamal, who made no mistake from close range.

FC Barcelona can now compete with Real Madrid for the first prize of the season. The final is on Sunday at 8 p.m. Dutch time and will also be played in Riyadh. Real Madrid reached the final of the mini-tournament in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday by beating city rivals Atlético Madrid 5-3.

The battle for the Spanish Super Cup has been held in Saudi Arabia since 2019. According to Spanish media, the Spanish Football Association would receive around 40 million euros for this every year. Four clubs play in tournament format.
