Excitement Builds as Judo Team Prepares for Olympic Torch Relay in Guyana

On June 9, the Olympic flame will pass through the Suzini Dojo. A team of 24 judokas was selected for the occasion. They are part of different clubs throughout Guyana.

Interclub meeting this Friday, January 19 at the Suzini Dojo. Several judokas have been selected to participate in the Olympic torch relay. They will be represented by François Pina, captain of this team.

The team is made up of 24 torchbearers, chosen according to a specific process which respects parity, intergenerational and the integration of people with disabilities.

“I received this news with great joy and honor. It was a great moment of jubilation and responsibility,” he explains. The appointment is set in a little over four months. The excitement is already palpable among those selected.

It’s a great source of pride, especially through the sport I practice. In judo, we transmit values ​​that closely match the message transmitted by the Olympics. We must highlight these practices every day. You need cohesion, it’s an individual sport but without a partner, you can’t practice.

The Olympic flame will pass through eight municipalities in Guyana on June 9. At the Suzini Dojo, judo will be highlighted.

At the Suzini dojo, we will have a judo and other martial arts activity, including a course. The relay will last eight minutes.

Different judo clubs from all over Guyana will be represented. “All the judo clubs in Guyana have provided candidates. All candidates have been selected,” specifies François Hervé, member of the steering committee of the Judo League of Guyana.

3000 people will participate in these collective relays throughout France.
