Euro 2024 handball: calendar, TV program, formula… What you need to know about the competition

A little less than a month after the world title acquired by the French handball players in Denmark, the men’s Euro begins on Wednesday January 10. On German soil, for the 16th edition of the competition, 24 teams will compete to succeed Sweden, crowned in 2022.

To get to the end, the teams will have to go through several stages. The preliminary round will first take place from January 10 to 16 in the cities of Düsseldorf, Berlin, Munich and Mannheim. Then, there will be a main round shared between Hamburg and Cologne from January 17 to 24 before a final square played entirely in Cologne, from January 26 to 28.

Regarding the television programming of the matches, BeIN Sports will broadcast the entire European Championship. The pay channel will, however, share the broadcast of the French team’s matches with TFX (1 preliminary round match, 2 main round matches and, in the event of qualification, the semi-final and the final).

For Nikola Karabatic’s Blues, the objective will be to once again get their hands on a title which has eluded them since 2014. As an appetizer, the players of coach Guillaume Gille will open the competition against North Macedonia, Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Dusseldorf. Then, they will face Switzerland, Sunday January 14 at 6 p.m., and Germany, Tuesday January 16 at 8:30 p.m.
