By having, not without difficulty, a valiant team from Bergerac, the OL players validated their ticket for the next round of this French Cup (1-2).

TOPS

Escarpit strikes again

For the player trained at OL, this meeting necessarily had something special, despite the elimination of Bergerac (N2) in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France (1-2), Friday, in Limoges. Initially discreet in the first period, Romain Escarpit multiplies the races, even if he is not often served by his teammates. The Lyon defenders, aware of the danger he represents, had decided to strictly mark him and challenge each of his movements. But for one oversight, just one in the first act, he made them pay a high price. On a nice cross from M’laab, he takes the ball at point blank range against Anthony Lopes who can do nothing. He thus brings his team back up to par (1-1, 45th) just before returning to the locker room. In the second half, more physically difficult, he still continued to make himself available and did not hesitate when he had to come back to defend. A great performance for a child from the Lyon house.

Lacazette and patron…

Even if he did not score, Alexandre Lacazette showed that he remained the captain of this Lyon team. Always in the right spaces, he was perfect in his discounts in order to launch his wingers. He also mobilized the opposing defense a lot with his numerous calls even if he did not often receive the ball or exploited his situations poorly. On Lyon’s first goal, he is perfectly launched from deep and after attracting two Bergerac defenders, he magnificently serves Malick Fofana who just has to push the leather into the opposing goal (0-1, 36th).

FLOPS

…compensated for Cherki’s bad evening

Often at the start of actions, Rayan Cherki lacked precision. Although this is usually his strong point, the French striker often seemed a little late, failing to get past the Bergerac defense. He missed the timing of several passes, notably during a delivery to Alexandre Lacazette, alone in the area (24th). As a soloist, he did not manage to conclude his actions either after great breakthroughs where he eliminated several defenders (54th). At the very end of the match, he had the opportunity to kill the match but once again he took too long and his shot was finally repelled by the Bergerac goalkeeper (87th). He is still at the origin of Caqueret’s goal because it is he who puts this good ball into the opponent’s area on a well-struck free kick.

Gyebohao condemned his people

The Bergerac midfielder turned the game around… but not in the right direction. However, not bad in the first period, the number 8 participated in the defensive efforts which made it possible to keep the Lyonnais within shooting range for more than an hour of play. But during a duel with Corentin Tolisso, he put in too much and crushes the foot of the French international. First punished with a yellow card, he finally saw the color of the latter turn red. He thus leaves his partners at 10 and they will not be able to fill the spaces he has left in the midfield. They end up breaking down during a free kick where they cannot mark everyone because of this numerical inferiority and it is Maxence Caqueret who makes them pay for this oversight (1-2, 78th).
