Emmanuel Macron Presents French Olympic and Paralympic Wishes for 2024

“Here we are, it’s 2024.” Emmanuel Macron went to the Insep campus this Tuesday in Paris to present his Olympic and Paralympic wishes, six months before the Paris Games. “Many here have been waiting for 2024 for many yearslaunched the President of the Republic in front of an audience of athletes and coaches. We are going to have meetings which are the culmination of years of work. »

185 days before the opening of the Olympic Games, the Head of State recalled the French objectives and ambitions, recalling the measures put in place to prepare for the Olympic deadlines and marking out the route after the competition.

The President assured that all sites would be delivered on time. “This is undoubtedly a reason why the IOC trusted us for 2030”he believes, welcoming the low accident rate on current construction sites.

Emmanuel Macron set out to recall the budget increases from which the sports movement has benefited in recent years to prepare for the Olympic deadlines, such as the 20 million euros invested in research at Insep over the past four years. “As part of France 2030, we will obviously continue this effort”he assures.

The head of state assures that the first results are being felt. “In 2016, 40% of athletes qualified for the Rio Games lived below the poverty line, he recalls. Thanks to the support, there will be none in Paris 2024. There are still some difficult situations, which we must continue to support. I will monitor the latter situations personally. »

The three challenges for Paris

Three challenges have been listed for Paris: security, fluidity of transport and accessibility of sites to people with disabilities, all while respecting ecological commitments. “It will be a real laboratory for sustainable Games, we will create a standard which will no longer give rise to setbacks. »

Obsession with inheritance

Emmanuel Macron took advantage of his wishes to mark the years following the Games. “From the beginning, we have had one obsession: heritage. Let us build something for the French nation that is not a sunny lunch, a July and August meeting. The Games must go beyond, he insists. To do this, it relies on the infrastructure that comes out of the ground, “particularly awaited by Seine-Saint-Denis”.

This also involves continuing efforts at school, with the continuation of 30 minutes of daily sports and the renewal of the Pass’Sport for young people. “We must re-anchor sport in the life of the nation,” he insists. Because it is a public health objective, and it is a wonderful instrument for inclusion, exchange and self-confidence. »

“I wish you a very happy new year 2024, of results and medals, of pride, he concluded. A year of perfect organization. Confidence, boldness, so that everything we have been able to do together for 10 years, we continue beyond 2024.” He addressed the athletes as he left his podium: ” It’s up to you. »
