Elon Musk’s Neuralink implants a brain chip in a human for the first time – El Sol de México

Elon Musk, the billionaire founder of Neuralink, said the company’s first human received an implant on Sunday and is recovering well, in a post on Platform X on Monday.

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) last year authorized the company to conduct its first trial to test its implant in humans.

“Initial results show promising neural spike detection,” Musk added.

The startup’s PRIME study is a trial of its wireless brain-computer interface to evaluate the safety of the implant and surgical robot.

The study will review the functionality of the interface, which allows people with tetraplegia, or paralysis of all four limbs, to control devices with thought, according to the company’s website.

Neuralink did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for more details.

Reuters reported earlier this month that Neuralink had been fined for violating US Department of Transportation rules regarding the movement of hazardous materials.
