As a legend of African football, Senegalese El-Hadji Diouf logically follows the Africa Cup of Nations with a keen eye. And the former Liverpool striker has a particular affection for the Algerian team.
“There are Algerian players who made my childhood like Rabah Madjer. I have quite a few friends like Rafik Saifi and all those of his generation. Algeria fascinated me with its beautiful game, that’s why Algeria will always remain in my heart. (…) They have a very good team, with a passionate coach and very high level players, like my little brother Riyad Mahrez. It’s a very homogeneous team. But like you know, Algeria’s problem is always Algeria. If the supporters do not put pressure on their team like in 2019 in Egypt, I think Algeria will be able to have a very good CAN,” said predicted Diouf, relayed by La Gazzette du Fennec.
The Greens will enter the competition this Monday against Angola.
