Draymond Green’s Thoughts on Kevin Durant’s GOAT Conversation

Draymond Green is the official loudmouth of the NBA. He talks about all subjects and generally has a strong opinion. On his podcast, he obviously couldn’t help but react to Kevin Durant’s statement feeling forgotten in the GOAT conversation. For Dray, KD must accomplish what Stephen Curry 22, that is to say win one title without the other, while being MVP of the Finals.

The Warriors superteam formed in 2016-17 received a lot of criticism. The two main players in these criticisms being Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant. Kevin Durant because he joined a team that had just gone 73-9 and Stephen Curry because he, in fact, did not win a Finals MVP during the two titles with KD.

But things have evolved since then. Stephen Curry won another title with the Warriors by being unanimously elected MVP of the Finals in 2022 against the Celtics. Monstrous finals (31 points on average) with this game 4 as the highlight where he sent 43 points to TD Garden while Boston led 2-1 in the series. He disgusted the green defense and closed a lot of mouths.

For his part, Kevin Durant did not have the same success. Although we can talk about the injuries, the facts are that he hasn’t won a title since leaving Stephen Curry and the Warriors. For Draymond Green, this is what he lacks to claim to be in the Greatest Of All Time conversation. Very clever since he treats his friend Steph and reminds us, in passing, that they won without KD. But it must be a coincidence…

“I think Kevin Durant is one of the best scorers we’ve ever seen. The way he shoots, without any effort… He doesn’t take any bad shots. He’s going to give you 31 while shooting what… 14 times. It’s a normal night for Kevin Durant. Of course, I’m not going to be one of those people who says ‘Kevin Durant’s titles are worthless.’ Stop. All NBA titles are valuable. Stephen didn’t get the credit he has today until 2022, when he led our team to the title and was crowned Finals MVP. You [KD] You have to do what Steph did to get into this conversation” – Draymond Green.

“You gotta do what Steph did to get into that conversation.”

Nothing to say about the guy’s talent. In pure basketball, Kevin Durant is clearly in the conversation but he lacks this check to spend. We can particularly regret the 2021 Playoffs where he carried a Nets team without Kyrie Irving and with a diminished Harden. He went to Game 7 against the Bucks – future champion – and found himself one step too big to face the Hawks in the conference final. This epic could – should have? – be his year.

With the Suns, he has an opportunity to do what Steph did and we must not miss the boat because it is growing behind. The Snake is no longer very young either (35 years old). Not sure that the doors to the GOAT table will open yet. Go, a top 10 is already very good…

Draymond Green did a double blow since he made Steph shine while talking about Kevin Durant. Two of his favorite activities when he’s not doing MMA on the basketball court. Okay with inside with Warriors?
