The Dobele “Tenax” unit won the Baltic Handball League match at home on Saturday, but “ASK Zemessardze”/LSPA experienced failure in the Estonian city of Pelva.
Dobeles handball players beat the Lithuanian team “Dragūnas” from Klaipeda with 30:20 (15:9).
Nikita Panchenko, Māris Veršakovs and Richards Juzup scored six goals each for the home team, while Kārlis Krūmiņš scored five goals.
Karolis Stropus scored five goals in the Klaipeda team.
In another match, “ASK Zemessardze”/LSPA lost 29:38 (15:21) to the Estonian team “Serviti” of Pelva.
Kristiāns Ingus Jonuška scored eight goals for Riga, while Arza Brunis Butans, Renārs Grebeņnikovs and Krists Vidzis scored five goals each.
Jürgens Roba stood out in the “Serviti” unit with nine accurate shots, and Hendriks Varuls with seven.
“Tenax” of Dobele is in first place with 15 points in 11 games, while “ASK Zemessardze”/LSPA is in eighth place without points in the eight-team competition.
Eight teams compete in the Baltic League this season, two of which are representatives of Latvia, three Lithuanian teams (Vilnius “Šviesa”, Kaunas “Granitas-Karys” and Klaipėda “Dragūnas”) and three Estonian teams (Pelvas “Serviti”, “Viljandi” and ” Mistra”).
In the main tournament, each team plays two matches against each other, the two best teams will qualify for the final four tournament, and the seventh and eighth place winners at the end of the competition. The 3rd-6th place holders of the main tournament will fight in the quarter-finals, in the sum of two matches, the winners will be determined, who will enter the final tournament.
Last season, Dobelniks were fourth, but “ASK Zemessardze”/LSPA did not reach the playoffs.
“Serviti” of Pelva became the champion, beating “Viljandi” in the final with 27:24.
