Dimitrios Grammozis in Kaiserslautern: Coach complains about “character assassination”

Dimitrios Grammozis was invited – and chose clear words. “In the last few days, things have been reported that were absurd. These were lies that were simply put out into the world. And that doesn’t work. That’s damaging to your reputation, that’s character assassination, I can’t put up with that. I thought about taking legal action and have already passed the whole thing on,” said the coach of 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Wednesday in the second division football club’s press conference before the game against FC Schalke 04 on Friday (6.30 p.m. in the FAZ live ticker for the second Bundesliga and on Sky).

What was it about? Immediately after the game at FC St. Pauli on Sunday, rumors arose on social networks claiming, among other things, that some players had opposed coach Grammozis and that he had already been placed on leave.

“Bottom drawer”

The 45-year-old once again made clear comments about a possible replacement. “This week you’ve clearly noticed how people do research and how people take things to harm someone personally. “I’m not one to complain about public criticism when a game is lost,” said Grammozis. However, it is “bottom drawer” to hide in the anonymity of the Internet and invent things, says Grammozis.

After seven defeats in a row, the unrest around Betzenberg is once again huge. Before the basement duel with Schalke 04 in the Fritz Walter Stadium, which was sold out with almost 50,000 spectators, there were once again mainly topics off the pitch last week.

The club had already distributed a statement from managing director Thomas Hengen on Monday in which he called for solidarity in a difficult sporting situation.

In the home game against his former club, Grammozis was under contract with Schalke from March 2021 to March 2022, the FCK coach hopes that he and his team can finally turn things around. “You can expect a game that will be characterized by emotions and fight. We can overtake Schalke in the table and that is our clear aim to do that.”
