Dijon’s Unbelievable Comeback: Overcoming 25-Point Deficit to Beat Galatasaray in BCL

Dijon achieved one of the most impressive comebacks in the history of the Basketball Champions League. Trailing Galatasaray by 25 points in the middle of the 3rd quarter, the JDA still managed to win in Turkey (93-96) thanks to an incredible last quarter (10-33).

For 27 minutes, nothing was going well for Dijon

On a shot of the former Mets player’s logo 92 Dee Bost (17 points), a little after halfway through the 3rd quarter (80-55, 27′), bringing the gap in favor of Galatasaray to +25, no one would have bet a cent on a Dijon victory in Istanbul . And yet… Because for 27 minutes, no premonitory sign of this hypothetical rise was visible. After a completely failed first quarter, Dijon already found itself leading by 14 points after ten minutes of play (24-38). A gap which rose to +19 before half-time and therefore +25 in the 3rd quarter. And suddenly… The Dijonnais woke up, before transcending themselves during the remaining thirteen minutes of play. Even at the start of the final period, the impossible still seemed to prevail, especially when Oniangue and Ducoté missed three consecutive shots on the same possession. But the self-sacrifice of this action was indeed an indicator of what was to come.

First trying to get back on track with his basketball, the JDA relied on the fundamentals, rebounding and free throws, like a Allan Dokossi unstoppable under the Turkish panels (17 points on 7/8 shooting, 13 rebounds including 6 offensive, 3 assists and 2 interceptions). Coming back to less than ten points in the last five minutes, confidence logically reappeared, Laurent Legname’s players were able to let their wrists do the talking. The pick and pop duo David Holston (15 points and 9 assists) – Leyton Hammonds (20 points including 4/8 at 3-points) hit the mark twice at 3-points (90-87, 37′).

The lead taken for the first time… 28 seconds from the end!

To achieve such a feat, you also need a little help from the opposing team: Ahmad Caver (14 points, 27 +/-) managed to escape the vigilance of Dee Bost, who we know was evasive in his own half, to allow Dijon to go in front… for the first time in the game ( 93-94, 39’32). Twenty-eight seconds in the lead in total but that is enough for the happiness of the JDA, author of an improbable return to Turkey this Tuesday evening.

An incredible victory but also oh so important for Dijon in this top 16 of the BCL, after the inaugural defeat against Ludwigsburg. During the next day, the Burgundian club will host Bonn.
