Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Mike McCarthy to Lead Team in 2024 without Contract Extension

Coach Mike McCarthy will not receive a contract extension from the Dallas Cowboys and will be at the helm of the team in 2024 with a deal that expires at the end of next season, according to ESPN.

Since Cowboys owner Jerry Jones mentioned last week that McCarthy was going to keep his job in 2024, questions have surfaced about the possibility of adjusting the coach’s contract.

The answer is no. Jones believes that someone who has an expiring contract is challenged and can bring out the best in himself. Which is Jones’ idea behind this decision.

The owner pulled the same stunt with former head coach Jason Garrett, who spent two seasons with an expiring contract.

Three days after a playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers at AT&T Stadium, Jones made McCarthy’s return official in a statement that praised McCarthy’s winning percentage in the regular season as well as his “playoff successes,” even though the successes are happened with the Packers.

The Cowboys are 67-42 in the regular season and have won two NFC East titles, but are 1-3 in the playoffs under McCarthy.
