Czech Republic – Greece 29:20, Victorious farewell to Munich. The handball players passed Greece, but they do not advance

Munich (from our reporter) – The national team entered the match with a changed line-up. Dominik Solák went in addition to the defense and in the attack, Klíma moved to the central clutch. Trkovský worked on the left wing. The experienced Babák only stayed on the stand instead of Morkovský.

The Czech representatives had a slight upper hand from the first minute, but Mrkvo’s clutch shots went into the goal. However, when the Czech goalkeeper picked up three 100% chances from the pivot and Hrstka prepared a great pass for Jakub Štěrba, the national team bounced back slightly. “I appreciate how we all approached the match after the defeat against Portugal and how we adjusted mentally,” praised captain Mrkva.

He then closed the goal and scored a total of 18 saves with an amazing 54 percent success rate. “I would trade it for better success in previous duels, but I’m glad I could help the boys,” said the experienced 34-year-old goalkeeper.

Thanks to him, Xavier Sabate’s men bounced back significantly in the last ten minutes of the first half. From the score of 7:6, the clutches and especially the winger Štěrbo did well in terms of shooting, who also showed an exemplary return to defense and won the ball with a great fish. The Czechs thus increased their lead and after Solák’s accurate hit, they went to the cabins with a score of 15:8.

The second half has already turned into an exhibition thanks to good Czech defense and easy goals in attack. Tomáš Piroch increased the score to 25:11 in the 48th minute, after which the Czech selection, aware of the high lead, eased up a bit, but still managed to win by nine goals. “We ended the championship on a positive note, but of course there is no great euphoria and no mood for celebrations,” realized Tomáš Piroch

The Czech handball players do not advance from the group due to losses against Denmark and Portugal and will finish the European Championship in 13th to 16th place. Tuesday’s duels of the remaining groups will decide the specific placement.

“One win was missing for satisfaction, i.e. progress. We and the fans had high expectations. Unfortunately, we were unable to fulfill them. I can’t deny commitment and combativeness, but the sports form didn’t match, sometimes there was even a bit of luck missing,” Mrkva evaluated the tournament.
