The Criollos dominate the championship series three wins to two, best in nine games.

The Criollos de Caguas came back with two home runs in the ninth inning to beat the Gigantes de Carolina 3-1 and go ahead, 3-2, in the Final Series of the Brava Lubricants Cup, in the 2023-2024 season, of the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League (LBPRC).

The Criollos’ offense, silenced for eight innings, woke up before the Giants’ fire extinguisher, Connor Sadzeck. The right-hander retired Danny Ortiz by striking out opening the game for the Criollos in the ninth inning.

Pedro León reached base due to an error by Carolina shortstop Delvin Pérez in his throw to first base. Then pinch-hitter Dwight Smith Jr. bounced the ball into center field at Roberto Clemente Walker Stadium to turn the score around, 2-1.

After Smith, Jr.’s home run, catcher Jonathan Morales also hit it out of the park, but through left field. Thus, in the blink of an eye, the Criollos turned the game around and dominated the Giants, 3-1. Until that moment, Caguas had left seven runners in circulation.

The victory belonged to Yacksel Ríos (1-0), who allowed a hit in the inning that he worked in relief. The defeat was for Sadzeck (0-1) after allowing the three Creole runs in his one-inning outing.

Final Series action continues on Friday, January 19 when the Giants visit the Criollos at the Yldefonso Solá Morales Stadium.

Information from LBPRC was used in this report.
