Concerns and Excitement Surrounding the Arrival of an LBMQ Team in Granby

Because when you think about it, every baseball fan should be excited. After all, it is the strongest caliber of ball in Quebec which is preparing to arrive in Granby, if we except of course the baseball of the Quebec teams of the Ligue Frontière.

But many make faces. My colleague Jonathan Gagnon and I have received a ton of messages from people and observers who are far from convinced that this is happy news. Then, there are those we meet at the arena and on the street who say the same thing.

It’s a bit of a shame, but it’s explainable.

At first, many were very surprised when the news broke. In fact, the arrival of an LBMQ team in Granby was not something hoped for in itself, especially after a resounding failure a few years ago. With baseball from the Quebec Junior Elite League and the Vallée des Forts Senior League, we can’t say that there was a lack of life at Stade Napoléon-Fontaine during the summer.

Moreover, we can think that the arrival of an LBMQ team in Granby can only bring umbrage to the Junior Guerriers and the Indians.

Then, there is recruitment which worries many. Respected observers in the world of senior baseball are predicting a very long road of the cross for the Granby team. Will have to see.

Others also think that the Granby organization is launching into senior baseball because it wants nothing less than to take revenge on the LBJÉQ because of certain of its policies, notably those regarding recruitment and team territories. . We won’t go there, at least for the moment.

Tiny organization

The LBMQ expansion draft is presented next weekend. A few days before the event, the Granby team has no general director or manager. In the case of the DG, we agree that it would not be a bad idea for the file to be resolved rather quickly.

Which brings us to another thing that worries us: the Granby senior team is owned by a non-profit organization, run by the Warriors. An organization made up of good people, competent and dedicated people, but an organization… tiny. Those who frequent the Stade Napoléon-Fontaine know it, there are only a few people who have kept the team at arm’s length for years.

Will this very small organization therefore have the capacity to operate two major teams at the same time? Certainly, there will be some tired people at the Stade Napoléon-Fontaine at the end of August…

The arrival of an LBMQ team in Granby should be good news, even excellent news. But there are just too many question marks for it to be celebrated as such.
