A strong shot was needed to revive the fortunes of a season that had not been brilliant so far and here it is coach Messina is ready to welcome Rodney McGruder to Olimpia EA7 Milano.
Play/American guard born in 1991, 195 cma free agent since the beginning of the season after playing the pre-season with the Golden State Warriors but not convincing coach Kerr to guarantee him a place in the rotations.
The Kansas University product made his NBA debut in 2016 with the Miami Heat, playing three seasons with a decent amount of playing time, a 5.6 average guaranteed by 43% from two and 36% from beyond the arc. In the 2018/2019 season he was downgraded to the G-LEAGUE with the Sioux-Falls Skyforce (the satellite team of the HEAT), scoring 1091 points in 161 matches.
In 2019/2020 he wears the Clippers tank top maintaining, more or less, the numbers of the previous experience in Florida and from 2020 he moved to Detroit where he remained until the end of the 22/23 season, averaging 15 minutes of use and 4.7 points per game.
McGruder extends the package of red and white wingers, already strengthened by the addition of Napier – which has certainly moved something in the EA7 offensive mechanisms – and by the recovery of Billy Baron, the absolute protagonist of last season.
Excellent skills in 1 vs 1 and a very polite hand from the bowwill immediately try to raise the bar of Milan’s ambitions, still in the running for a place in the Euroleague play-in.
