Chancellor Nehammer Announces Plans for New National Stadium by 2030

Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) has set the goal of building a new national stadium by 2030.

This emerges from the “Austria plan” that Nehammer presented on Friday afternoon in Wels.

According to this, Austria is “a country of sport”, which is why it will need, among other things, “new efforts in sports policy with national and international impact” in the coming years.

In order to improve the framework conditions in top-class sport, according to the “Austria Plan”, a new national stadium is to be built, and there is also to be a “sports infrastructure offensive”.

However, no further details about the construction of the stadium such as location, size or expected costs were given in the approximately 80-page paper that was available to the APA.

There has been discussion for years about a new building for Vienna’s Happel Stadium, which opened in 1931 and has been home to the national soccer team for many decades.
