Caroline Lopez and Lisa Barbelin Lead French Archery Federation Selections for 2024 Season

“In view of the results of the last four days and taking into account other criteria, the French Archery Federation will be able to announce no later than Monday January 15 the names of the four men and four women selected [qui] will wear the colors of France for the 2024 season of international recurve archery competitions. »

Without any real surprise, we find the two Moselle archers at the top of the list: Caroline Lopez (Cheminot) and Lisa Barbelin (Ley), respectively first and second in this second round (Amélie Cordeau and Victoria Sebastian take 3rd and 4th places) selections to be in the French team during the next international windows, already have a track record that speaks for them. “It’s good that Lisa and I always get out of each other’s way, it’s motivating. She was first in September, that’s me,” smiles Caroline Lopez.

Three in the end

During the first phase of these selections, at the end of August, the two archers were placed in the short list of the six French women competing for this second round. They confirmed brilliantly. Lisa Barbelin was in the lead on Monday and Tuesday, before Caroline Lopez won on Wednesday and Thursday, to obtain a first place in the final ranking.

But joining the French team on Monday does not automatically mean participating in the Games. “At the end of the season, three men and three women will be designated to participate in the Paris Olympic Games,” specifies the FFTA selection process.

Persevere internationally

We should therefore not make any missteps during the three World Cup rounds (Shanghai Yecheon and Antalya between April and June) nor during the European Championship in Essen (Germany) from May 6 to 12, these events should contribute to finalize the list of French archers for the 2024 Olympic Games. “I have no pressure regarding these deadlines,” says Lisa Barbelin. I see it more as steps before the big deadline of the Olympics.

Lisa Barbelin and Caroline Lopez, both licensed at the Riom club, have in any case shown real consistency on the international scene so far. Thus, at the beginning of August, they achieved the feat of reaching the final of the world championships in Berlin. Lisa Barbelin, elected archer of the year, won two other silver medals: individually on the fourth stage of the World Cup in Paris and at the European Games in Krakow, as a team. As for Caroline Lopez, she also won the title of U21 world vice-champion this summer.

For men, the first four in this last selection phase are Thomas Chirault, Baptiste Addis, Jean-Charles Valladont and Nicolas Bernardi.
