CAN 2024: “I was between life and death”, an Egyptian player hospitalized after a fall in training

A nasty fall and a new crime in the Egyptian ranks. Midfielder Emam Ashour will not play in the round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations due to a concussion suffered on Wednesday.

The player “was injured in the head during training with the national team,” confirms the Egyptian Football Federation in a press release shared on social networks this Wednesday. And continues: “he was immediately treated by the medical staff of the national team led by Mohamed Abu El-Ela. He was immediately taken to hospital and underwent all tests which confirmed he had suffered a concussion and his condition is now stable. »

According to several media, including DailyMail, Emam Ashour would have landed on his head after attempting an acrobatic flip. The player must remain hospitalized for at least 24 hours from this Wednesday, under observation.

The player gave his news in his Instagram story this Thursday. In the photo he shared, he is seen lying in a hospital bed, quite smiling. “Thank God for everything,” he wrote. The first thing is that I was between life and death (…). I thank everyone who was next to me yesterday, I thank the team doctors, I thank the staff.”

A few days earlier, the Egyptians had already had to suffer the loss of their number 1 goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy who was hit in the shoulder. Injured against Ghana, their leader Mohamed Salah is also out and will only be able to reunite with his teammates if they qualify for the quarter-final.

Second in Group B, after conceding three draws in three matches against Mozambique, Ghana and Cape Verde, the Pharaons meet the Democratic Republic of Congo in their round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations. The match kicks off this Sunday at 9 p.m.
