Bundesliga: Timo Schultz is the new coach at 1. FC Cologne

1. FC Köln has found a new coach in Timo Schultz. As the club announced, the 46-year-old is scheduled to lead the Bundesliga soccer team’s training this morning. Schultz will make his debut on the Cologne bench in the first home game of the year against 1. FC Heidenheim on January 13th.

FC managing director Christian Keller said they were very pleased to have won Schultz to stay in the league. He brings the “personality and competence to raise the performance potential of our team,” he said. With the necessary conviction and dedication, FC Cologne will succeed in staying in the league.

Schultz is “100 percent convinced” that he will stay in the league

Schultz was pleased about the “very attractive task” at a “great, traditional club”. We will work intensively in the next few weeks to achieve our stated goal, said the coach: “FC belongs in the 1st Bundesliga. We will manage to stay in the league, I am 100 percent convinced of that.”

Schultz was only released from the Swiss first division club FC Basel in September. He previously worked as head coach of FC St. Pauli from 2020 to 2022. Schultz was also a player at the traditional Hamburg club for many years and, after his active career, he was a junior coach and assistant coach for the professional team.

1. FC Köln finished the first half of the Bundesliga season in 17th place with just 10 points from 16 games. Shortly before Christmas, Steffen Baumgart was fired as head coach.
