It was the wind or misfortune, but the ball moved maliciously outside the goal. They say the winter winds in Buffalo were raging. Something happened on Sunday, but if it had been a field goal it would have meant a tie against the Kansas City Chiefs who won 27-24 with less than two minutes left. The Bills were thus eliminated from the AFC divisional round; They consummated one more failure in their long tragic history and the blame fell on kicker Tyler Bass, who hid the shame in the darkness of his helmet.

“It’s completely my fault,” Tyler Bass said later in front of everyone who was judging him. I don’t feel well. This really hurts, he added.

With the weight of defeat, Tyler decided to disappear from social networks. The media pressure that cascades on sports stars is sometimes too much.

A monumental failure by the Bills seems like part of an old tradition. Director Vincent Gallo’s 1998 film, Buffalo 66also has nods to another memorable defeat.

In the 1991 Super Bowl, Scott Norwood missed a 47-yard field goal attempt in the final seconds of a 20-19 loss to the New York Giants.

I am incredibly disappointed. I mean, you put so much time into it, into the season and more into this game and the preparation for it. And to come out and not have the performance we expected is extremely disappointing and frustrating, coach Sean McDermott said.

Bass’ kick wouldn’t have guaranteed a win, or even overtime. But he added an element to make another Bills elimination more dramatic.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen felt sorry for his kicker and said he wished he didn’t see him in such a terrible situation.

You win as a team, you lose as a team. One play does not define a game or a season. I know people will be out there saying that. “We have to be there for him because again we ran a couple of plays earlier, probably setting a different tone right now,” Allen said.

Just Saturday, another kicker, Anders Carlson of the Packers, missed a field goal in the fourth quarter that would have changed history in Green Bay’s loss to San Francisco in the NFC divisional round.
