Bill Belichick Addresses Future with New England Patriots Following Season-Ending Loss

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick said after Sunday’s season-ending 17-3 loss to the New York Jets that questions about his employment status will be answered your time.

“As far as the future is concerned, I will sit with [el propietario] Robert [Kraft]like I do every year at some point, at the end of the season, and we’ll talk about things like we always do,” Belichick said. “But that’s all I have to say about it right now because there’s nothing more what to talk about.”

There has been speculation about whether Belichick will return for a 25th season as Patriots coach, in part because Kraft had said in March how important it was for him to qualify for the playoffs this season.

Instead, the Patriots finished 4-13 and were eliminated from the postseason on Dec. 10, the earliest that has happened since 2000, Belichick’s first year as coach.

“It was a disappointing year for all of us: players, coaches, staff, the entire organization. It’s not something any of us are happy with, but it is what it is,” Belichick said, specifying that he would respond to questions about the end snowy team.

When asked if he hopes to coach the Patriots next season, Belichick said, “It’s disappointing the way the game ended, yeah.”

When later asked if he preferred to return in 2024, Belichick said: “Just finished the game here with the Jets. I put everything I had into it. Disappointed in the results.”

Belichick, 71, admitted he still views coaching the same way despite posting the worst record of his tenure with the Patriots.

“I enjoy coaching, I still like coaching the team,” he said. “I like to prepare the team, plan the games, train on Sundays. But the results were not good and none of us are happy with that.”
