Berlin Judoka Shine at 46th Matsuru Dutch Open Espoir

The 2024 competition year began for our u18s at the 46th Matsuru Dutch Open Espoir in Eindhoven. Under the direction of national coach Henry Ballaschk, 18 men and women took part in this, one of the largest youth tournaments in Europe. The Berlin delegation began their return journey with two gold, two bronze medals and two 5th places. State coach Ballaschk was very happy with the result, “after all, six Berlin judoka were in the medal fights.”

In the men’s category, Juri Sielaff (SFL ShidoSha) prevailed among the 67 participants in the up to 66 kg class. The class was one of the most crowded.
Elina Prüsse (SC Lotos) won the second gold medal in the heavyweight category, over 70 kg.

The bronze medals were won by Melvin Noack (SC Berlin) up to 73 kg and Jerome Goltz (PSV Olympia) up to 81 kg.

For the women, Helke Ridderskamp (BC Senshu) up to 48 kg and Pia Kramkowsky (Polizei SV) up to 70 kg were in the small final. Both had to admit defeat to their opponents and took 5th place each.
“All Berlin athletes fought a good competition and had a positive battle record. The Berliners performed well at one of the largest youth tournaments in Europe. That was a decent start to the season!” said state coach Ballaschk.
