BC Smashing vs. Almere: Exciting Badminton Match Recap

Meet Luuk Vingerhoed!

The first matches were the men’s doubles with Yannnic and Teun against Alex Vlaar and Dennis Koppen, and the women’s doubles with Sterre and Maureen against Kirsten de Wit and Diede Odijk. Unfortunately, our men lost 21-13 and 21-9, but in the second set they recovered well from an 11-2 deficit. Our ladies also played a match but unfortunately lost 21-10 and 21-13.

Then Casper and Leonie took to the court against Noah Haase and Alida Chen. Casper lost with a score of 21-5 and 21-8, and despite the result he was happy that he could play the single. He noted that there were good rallies, but in the end the point went to Noah. Leonie played a strong first set against Alida, but the second set was more difficult. This was reflected in the final score of 21-17 and 21-8.

After the first two singles, the second singles followed. Rune played against Dennis Koppen and Maureen against Diede Odijk. In the first set, Maureen looked for her opponent’s weaknesses, and in the second set she tried to capitalize on them. Although she had an exciting extra time in the second set, unfortunately it was not enough. The final score was 21-14 and 22-20. In contrast, Rune won the first set by 18, lost the second by 11, but made an impressive comeback in the third set, where he took the match 23-21. This was not the first time Rune won after trailing 20-14. The comeback man strikes again!

Finally, the mixed doubles were played. Yannic and Leonie faced Alex Vlaar and Alida Chen, while Teun and Sterre faced Noah Haase and Kirsten de Wit. Yannic and Leonie had strong opposition in the mix, but fought hard for every point. Unfortunately, they ultimately lost 21-14 and 21-13. Teun and Sterre also fought for every point, but lost 21-10 and 21-8.

The overall final score was 1-7 in favor of Almere, but good games were played. On to next week against DKC!
