Bayer Leverkusen hopes to be able to acquire Marco Asensio from Paris Saint-Germain this transfer period, Florian Plettenberg reported on Monday evening. The journalist from Sky Deutschland notes that it will be difficult negotiations, but that Werkself will still try to sign the 28-year-old attacker.
Leverkusen has sky-high ambitions and hopes to strengthen itself with a big name before the current transfer window closes. Since coach Xabi Alonso’s team is still competing for the national title and is still active in the Europa League and DFB-Pokal, they hope to further expand the selection.
It is not clear from the reports from Germany whether Leverkusen is thinking of a permanent transfer or a rental deal. The transfer value of Asensio is currently estimated at around twenty million euros by Transfermarkt.
The Spaniard made the transfer-free transfer from Real Madrid to PSG last transfer summer, for which he has only played seven Ligue 1 games so far. He will be stuck in Paris until mid-2026.
In mid-September, Asensio injured his foot, meaning he was only able to play for the first time three months later. In December he made three substitute appearances, but last weekend he was finally allowed to start again. He was immediately accurate against Stade Brest, although the game was not won (2-2).
Leverkusen currently has players who can perform excellently in the forward line, including Florian Wirtz, Patrick Schick, Jonas Hofmann and Adam Hlozek, but Alonso still hopes for additional reinforcement in the attack.
