Barcelona falls in Milan (74-70) and Valencia attacks Baskonia (77-62) | Basketball | Sports

Euroleague day 23

MilanBarça

The only thing that Barcelona could make clear from the first half of their match in Milan is that fashion is changing, and little else. From the traditional suit of Messina and its coaching staff, they have moved on to the cotton jersey closed with a zipper, and if that goes unnoticed in another team, if the change comes from the hand of Emporio Armani, – who doesn’t aspire to wear a suit of Armani? –, the matter takes on another dimension. They must have entertained themselves in that, or in who knows what, Grimau’s men, who completed a very poor first half (47-28) in which nothing worked for them, neither in attack nor in defense.

Only Vesely (28 points) tried to come to the rescue in the second, completing a hopeful third quarter, but he did not have enough help. Laprovittola returned to the court, but completed a gray performance. Still out of shape, he left due to fouls, no points and three turnovers, which gave him a negative rating (-7).

Vesely’s push gave his team some hope, but it was not enough. Parker (11 points) and Hernangómez (10) were far from the numbers necessary to make a comeback.

Barcelona was never close to winning, despite the mirage of the last seconds, when an unexpected triple with five to go, placed Grimau’s group just two points away. But there was no time left and after the desperate team to recover the ball Shields scored the two shots and put the final figures on the scoreboard, so that Barça fell again against Milan as in the Palau (74-70), in both cases without Mirotic on the court.

Baskonia 62 Valencia Basket 77

Meanwhile, Valencia made life impossible for Baskonia in Buesa and ended up taking a victory for which they worked the entire game (62-77). The Vitorian team failed to take the lead in the forty minutes of the match and did not even manage to protect the basket average. The Baskonistas had won at the Fuente de San Luis by 14 points, and in a disastrous ending, they ended up losing by 15, which put Valencia ahead of Baskonia in the standings, both with 12 wins and 11 losses.

Always uncomfortable, the home team finished with very poor numbers (5 of 31 triples) for the team that scores the most from outside in the Euroleague.

Mumbrú ordered an exhausting defense that paid off. Baskonia failed to reach 20 points in any of the quarters, and Valencia only faltered five minutes from the end (56-59). The contribution of debutant Jordan Theodose was crucial for that small recovery of the Vitorian team, which had no continuity. Valencia gained oxygen, tightened their defense again, hitting outside shots very well and avoiding shots at the basket. Inglis and Ojeleye were colossal in that aspect and dried up the sources of Baskonia, which from that moment of Valencian crisis until the end, grabbed a scoring bird. Only three points in the last five minutes. Not even Valencia’s advantage could be saved in a disastrous outcome.
