Aston Villa Secures Deal to Sign Morgan Rogers from Middlesbrough

Aston Villa have reached an agreement to sign Morgan Rogers from Middlesbrough.

The Premier League club will pay an initial fee of £8m plus a further £7m in potential add-ons for Rogers, who will now travel to the Midlands for a medical before signing a five-and-a-half year contract until 2029. The former Rogers wins as part of the deal due to a 25 per cent sell-on clause after the 21-year-old was sold to Middlesbrough in the summer.

Rogers became Unai Emery’s main target in the January transfer window, with Villa rejecting two offers. He has made 33 appearances in all competitions for Michael Carrick’s side this season, including 14 in the Championship.

He started his career at West Bromwich but signed for City in the summer of 2019.

Rogers spent loan spells at Lincoln City, Bournemouth and Blackpool before making a permanent move to Middlesbrough last summer.

Rogers, who has been deployed primarily in the Championship side’s attacking midfield this season, has represented England’s youth teams up to under-20 level.

Villa’s next game will be against Newcastle United in the English Premier League on Tuesday evening.
