Asian Cup: 1′ of silence for Palestine, then Iran wins 4-1 – Football

Fans observed a minute’s silence in tribute to the Palestinian victims of the conflict between Hamas and Israel before Iran’s 4-1 victory over the Palestinian team at the Asian Cup football match. The tournament, which runs until February 10 in Qatar, is taking place for Palestinian players in the shadow of the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, following the Hamas terrorist attack in Israel on October 7.

The biggest ovation of the evening was reserved for the Palestinian scorer Tamer Seyam, who brought the score to 3-1, and then celebrated with tears in his eyes, pointing his finger towards the sky. In the Education City stadium in Doha some fans wore the traditional keffiyeh when the Palestinian anthem sounded, before the minute’s silence, broken only by a few chants of “Free Palestine”. In the stands, others waved a large Palestinian flag with the same slogan.

Roma player Sardar Azmoun also scored for Iran, coming in from the bench and scoring the fourth goal.
