A draw which must awaken old demons. Two years after its nightmarish and short adventure in Cameroon, Algeria once again stumbled upon its entry into the running (1-1) at CAN 2024. Despite Bounedjah’s opening score, the Angola did not give up and equalized from the penalty spot.

Algeria quickly found the opening in the match. Belaïli throws Bounedjah into the depths. The Fennecs striker just has to calmly adjust Neblu with the outside of his foot (18th, 1-0).

The scorer even thought he had scored a double when, a few minutes later, he sent a splendid return into the top corner. But what could have been one of the goals of the tournament remains an anecdote since it was declared offside (22nd).

Angola on penalty

The “Palancas negras” came back in the second period thanks to a penalty following a foul by Bentaleb on Mabululu. The resident of Ittihad Alexandria takes justice into his own hands, deceiving Mandrea. The goalkeeper from Stade Malherbe de Caen cannot do anything (66th, 1-1).

Fennecs can harbor regrets. They were there but were unable to kill the match, conceding a goal on their only weak time. They lowered their intensity along the way and Mahrez was too shy to make a difference. From there to worry about the future? Probably not, even they could find themselves back against the wall in the event of a setback in the Group D clash against Burkina Faso.
