Aryna Sabalenka blows away revelation Zheng Qinwen and extends her title at the Australian Open

The defending champion against the new Chinese star. The women’s Australian Open final was a great event and a clash of styles: the power tennis of Aryna Sabalenka against the dynamic variation play of Zheng Qinwen.

Sabalenka had not lost a set on the way to the final in Melbourne and had no intention of doing so in the final. The Belarusian quickly captured a break and pushed Zheng back with her powerful blows. The latter found no answer, Sabalenka quickly advanced to a 6-3 set win.

Set two became trousers from the same cloth. Zheng quickly gave up her serve and a ruthless Sabalenka steamed ahead unperturbed. After a fiercely fought eighth game, she finished the final: 6-2.

Sabalenka takes her second final victory in a row at the Australian Open, her second Grand Slam victory in her career. At the age of 21, Zheng misses the opportunity to succeed the Chinese legend Li Na, but she can look back on a great tournament. She also jumps to 7th place in the world rankings.

“I would like to congratulate Zheng on her great week,” Sabalenka waved praises to her opponent afterwards. “Losing a final hurts, but she will play many more. I am so happy to win here again, it is a dream to extend my title.”

“It’s my first final. Of course I think this is a shame, but it was a great experience,” Zheng responded. “I think I could have done better today, but Sabalenka was very strong. I’m sure there will be great things to come in the future.”
