Argentine Tennis Players Suffer First Round Eliminations in Australian Open Qualifying

The Buenos Aires native Diego Schwartzman (111th in the ranking) was eliminated this Tuesday in the first round of the Australian Open qualifying, in a negative day for the Argentine tennis players who are looking for their place in the main draw of the first Grand Slam of the year.

Peque’s defeat against the American Denis Kudla (165th) by 7-6 (7) and 6-4, which left him out of the main draw of a GS for the first time since Wimbledon 2014, was one of the eight Argentine falls in the first round of classification, while there were three joys.

For the men, Francisco Comesaña (123rd) beat the Japanese Yuta Shimizu (208th) by 7-6 (2) and 6-2 while Camilo Ugo Carabelli (140th) beat the local Hyden Jones (1,318th) by 6-0 , 3-6 and 6-2. On the women’s side, Juli Riera from Pergamin (123rd) defeated Canadian Stacey Fung (239th) 6-1 and 6-4.

Comesaña will play this Wednesday no earlier than 8 o’clock against the Hungarian Maté Valkusz (204th) while Ugo Carabelli will face the Italian Riccardo Bonadio (164th) at the same time. For her part, Riera will face the French Elsa Jacquemot (176º) from 2 in the morning.
