Alpine skiing: Gala by Gut-Behrami on Kronplatz-RTL

In contrast to the debacle at RTL in Jasna, when no Austrian woman made it into the points, this time six ÖSV women made it into the second round. However, everyone was outside the top 20. Scheib went into the decision in 25th place and improved by 16 places thanks to his best running time. The 25-year-old Styrian secured only the third top ten place for the ÖSV in the eighth World Cup race on the difficult slope in St. Vigil.

“The second round was damage limitation. At the moment I don’t know why I didn’t manage to push myself to the limit in the first run. In the second it was much better, I started attacking well. That was a good run,” said Scheib in an ORF interview.

ÖSV women improved in round two

In general, after the historically poor performance in Jasna, all ÖSV women managed to improve their ranking in the second round on Kronplatz. Ricarda Haaser, who was 23rd best Austrian after the first round, ended up in 13th place (2.52), thus achieving her best RTL result this season. “I’ve already tried to make the system drive better and to be more willing to take risks. That was certainly better, although the ultimate consequence was still missing,” said the Tyrolean.

Elisabeth Kappaurer and Stephanie Brunner gained ten and eleven places respectively in the second round and ultimately took places 17 (2.83) and 19 (3.04). Katharina Liensberger landed in 25th place (3.56). Elisa Mörzinger was eliminated in the second round. Franziska Gritsch, Katharina Troupe and Katharina Huber missed qualifying for the decision.

Gut-Behrami wins with ease

Gut-Behrami, who achieved the third best time in round two, was in a class of her own. In the absence of the injured World Cup leader Mikaela Shiffrin, the Swiss celebrated her 42nd World Cup success and the fifth this season. In the overall World Cup, Gut-Behrami is only 95 points behind Shiffrin, who, according to US Alpine director Patrick Riml, could only return to Soldeu in a week and a half at the earliest.

“I don’t think I can really dose it. I just feel confident on the skis at the moment and so I can attack quite a bit without risking too much. That doesn’t mean that I’m tactical, but I just have a good feeling on the skis, then everything feels easier,” said Gut-Behrami, who won the Super-G in Cortina d’Ampezzo two days ago .

Women’s World Cup takes a ten-day break

For Hector, who recently triumphed in Jasna, she achieved a podium finish in her 100th World Cup RTL. “I’m really happy that I got second place. That’s great. At times I skied really well, but at times there is still a bit more work to be done. But second place is great,” said the 31-year-old Swede. Robinson also celebrated her performance. “It’s my best result here. I’m very happy,” said the 22-year-old from New Zealand.

The women’s World Cup is now going on a ten-day break as the speed races in Garmisch-Partenkirchen were canceled due to safety concerns. “It’s really good that we have a bit of a break. The mistake you often make when things are going well is that you hope to race every day. But it’s still a long time until March, and in March there are still races where you can go fast,” said Gut-Behrami.
