European top club convinced: ‘Gimenez or Zirkzee can become the new top striker’

AC Milan wants to strengthen itself with a potential top striker in 2024, writes La Gazzetta dello Sport. According to the pink sports newspaper, Schiedammer Joshua Zirkzee is hopefully on the list at i Rossoneri. In addition to the 22-year-old striker from Bologna FC, no fewer than four alternatives are mentioned, including Feyenoord top scorer Santiago Gimenez.
Zirkzee is still with Bologna until mid-2026, but according to Italian reports he will most likely leave his club. Rossoblu acquired the goalkeeper from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022 for just 8.5 million euros. A year and a half later, the unleashed Zirkzee Bologna can earn a significantly higher amount.
If the Rekordmeister decides to bring Zirkzee back, the German superpower will have to release a clause of 20 million euros. For other clubs, the Dutch youth international would have a buyout clause of no less than 40 million euros in his contract. If Zirkzee leaves for another club, Bayern Munich will receive fifty percent of the total transfer fee. According to Transfermarkt, Zirkzee is currently worth €30 million.
Milan knows that Zirkzee is also in good shape in the Premier League, where clubs can generally spend more. For example, manager Erik ten Hag would like to bring his compatriot to Manchester United. For now it looks like Zirkzee will finish the season at Bologna. It is more likely that Milan club management will specifically report for Zirkzee next summer.
Zirkzee is having an excellent season with Bologna. In 23 official matches, the young striker scored 9 goals and 4 assists. Bologna is currently in a respectable eighth place in Serie A. Zirkzee even wore the captain’s armband at his club this season.
Alternatives
If Zirkzee is unavailable next summer, Milan will focus on other strikers. La Gazzetta dello Sport mentions four names of attack leaders who are followed by the number three of the Serie A. Gimenez is also said to be interested in Il Diavolo. The 22-year-old Mexican is contracted to Feyenoord until mid-2027 and is worth 50 million euros, according to Transfermarkt.
In addition to Gimenez, strikers Benjamin Sesko (RB Leipzig), Jonathan David (LOSC Lille) and Victor Gyökeres (Sporting Portugal) are linked with a transfer to Milan. Olivier Giroud’s contract expires next summer at San Siro, while Luka Jovic and Noah Okafor have not yet really convinced themselves.
