12 NFL organizations that have never won a championship

Three of the eight teams qualified for the second round of the NFL playoffs will attempt to take a further step towards a first in their history: lifting the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

In total, there are 12 organizations on the Goodell circuit that have never been able to win top honors. Here they are :

Buffalo Bills

The Bills have been among the favorites to win a Super Bowl for a few years, but they have yet to live up to expectations. The team that will face the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday has made the playoffs 20 times since the merger of the AFC and NFC in 1970. However, fans of the Buffalo club have had their hearts broken four times in a row during the The final game of a campaign, since their team lost the Super Bowl clashes between 1990 and 1993.

Detroit Lions

After many years of misery, the Lions finally have a competitive roster. They will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. If they win, they will play in the National final for the first time since 1991 and only the second time in their history. Detroit has never even appeared in a Super Bowl game.

The surprising Texans have made the playoffs seven times since their inception in 2002. They have never made it past the second round. The Houston team will try to remedy this situation by beating the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday afternoon.

Arizona Cardinals

Founded in 1898, the Cardinals are the oldest team in the NFL. The team has only participated in the post-season nine times since the creation of the Vince Lombardi Trophy. The “Cards” played in Super Bowl XLIII (2008), but lost 27 to 23 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Falcons d’Atlanta

The Georgia club has twice participated in the final match of a campaign. The Falcons missed Super Bowl XXXIII (1998) against the Denver Broncos and Super Bowl LI (2016) against the New England Patriots. The second loss was historic, as Atlanta held a 28-3 lead in the third quarter. The “Pats” ultimately won 34-28 in overtime, representing the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history.

Caroline Panthers

Like the Falcons, the Panthers have appeared in two Super Bowl games (2003 and 2015) without being able to triumph.

Bengals from Cincinnati

The Bengals have made it to the final game three times (1981, 1988 and 2021), only to fail.

Browns de Cleveland

Ohio fans don’t have it easy with professional football. The Browns had won four championships before the merger. Since then, they have won only five straight games in 13 playoff appearances. Cleveland has never been to a Super Bowl.

Jaguars de Jacksonville

The Jaguars’ playoff run consists of four second-round appearances, no conference finals and no Super Bowls since their inception in 1995.

Los Angeles Chargers

Postseason success is rare for the Chargers, but they did make it to Super Bowl XXIX (1994). They lost it to the San Francisco 49ers.

Vikings you Minnesota

The Vikings’ last championship was in 1969, a year before the merger. They defeated the Browns in the grand finale of the NFC, before losing to the Chiefs in Super Bowl IV. The Minnesota team subsequently played three other times (1973, 1974 and 1976) for the Vince Lombardi Trophy without knowing the joy of victory.

Titans du Tennessee

Whether it was the Houston Oilers or the Tennessee Titans, this franchise has never won major honors. The team has played in only one Super Bowl, in 1999 against the Rams. This was the first year the organization became the Titans.
