1. FC Köln to Lose Promising Talent to 2nd League as Pierre Nadjombe Heads to 1. FC Magdeburg

1. FC Köln will lose a promising talent next summer. Pierre Nadjombe (20) is leaving Geißbockheim after eight years and moving to the 2nd league.

The right-back, who has only played for the U21 team so far, will join 1.FC Magdeburg in the summer of 2024. The 20-year-old will finish the season under Evangelos Sbonias (41) in the Regionalliga West before moving up two classes in one fell swoop.

1. FC Magdeburg believes Pierre Nadjombe can win the 2nd league

“With Pierre we were able to sign a dynamic, fast player who also has his qualities in the forward game. Because of his young age, he still has good development potential,” says coach Christian Titz about the Cologne addition.

In the past year and a half he played a total of 48 regional league games (three goals, six assists), but he was always unable to make the jump to the professionals. Due to the lack of prospects, the Cologne home-grown team is now fleeing to the east at the end of the contract. Nadjombe would have preferred to leave in the winter, but the Cologne officials didn’t give him permission to do so.

The FC cannot therefore collect a transfer fee for the U23 international player from Togo and will let him go free of charge. “Pierre is a young player in whom we see a lot of potential. He can cover the wings both defensively and offensively. We also trust him to make the jump to the 2nd league,” says Otmar Schork, managing director of sports at 1. FC Magdeburg.

In addition to Magdeburg, second division rivals VfL Osnabrück were also interested in the fast winger. Assistant coach Martin Heck knows Nadjombe from his time in the FC youth team and recommended him to head coach Uwe Koschinat. The two people from Cologne are now coming away empty-handed.
