XXIII City of Avilés Christmas Judo Tournament to Donate Proceeds to Rett Syndrome Research

The event will donate all proceeds to the National Association for Rett Syndrome Research and the Brotherhood of the Holy Cross has set up a 0 line for all those who wish to collaborate with the cause.

There is no Christmas in Avilés that does not include the Christmas event of judo. The City of Avilés Christmas Tournament reaches its XXIII edition this Friday with 400 judokas from Asturias and Cantabria. 2023 is coming to an end and the lower categories will put the finishing touch with a consolidated event on the calendar that has already become one of the longest on the calendar. The main novelty is the location since it returns to its usual point of Los Canapés after a year in La Magdalena.

The number is similar to previous years, perhaps with a slight reduction so that the little ones can enjoy the event even more and the organization does not feel overwhelmed. In the case of the Alevín category there will be several teams from Asturias and Cantabria, although the rival to beat will be Judo Club Avilés after having won the championship at Villa de Avilés. Its organizer Carlos Fernández recognizes that “Villa’s result places us as favorites, without a doubt, but we have to prove it on the tatami.”

The competition will start at 4:45 p.m. with the mini benjamines plus, mini benjamines and benjamines. All of them are scheduled at four in the afternoon. Later the fry will arrive at 7:00 p.m. The summons in this case will be at 6:15 p.m. The participating teams will be Real Grupo de Cultura Covadonga, Judo Club Senshi, Asalia Beya, Takeda La Calzada, Inmaculada, Campiello – Vallín, Oscar Fernández and La Salle Santander.

On this occasion, all proceeds will go to the National Association for Rett Syndrome Research. Admission will cost two euros and, in addition, the Brotherhood of the Holy Cross has arranged a 0 row for all those who wish to collaborate with the cause. The account number is ES22 3035 0366 27 3660014761. “We thought it was a good time to pitch in and help those who need it most. We are delighted and we call for the people of Aviles, always generous, to join the cause,” explained Carlos Fernández.

In this way, 2023 will be shelved with an event that will once again fill Avilés for one afternoon with athletes coming not only from Asturias, but also from neighboring communities, demonstrating the strength of sport as an economic channel for the city. This is added to the success of the different initiatives launched by Judo Club Avilés during Christmas with activities such as ‘Friend’s Day’ or ‘Dads on the tatami’ that are about to hang the full banner and have served for parents and children spend more time together in addition to facilitating the reconciliation of work and family life in difficult times.
