Xàtiva Badminton Club Shines in Toledo Senior Master with Four Medals

Good performance by the Xàtiva Badminton Club in the Toledo Senior Masterheld last weekend at the Rafael del Pino sports complex in the town of Castilla La Mancha, where he won four medals. The athletes Julio Martín, Mª José Mompó and José Luis Llopis, who represented the Setabe club, won one gold, two silver and one bronze at the national event.

The gold came in the mixed doubles of the B1 category with Mª José and Julio. The couple from Sebastián surpassed the group stage and in the semifinals they beat the couple formed by Jesús Daniel Trujillo and Gemma Cardiogonde by 21-8 and 21-18. With this victory they reached the final, where César Fernández and Carolina López, number one seeds in the tournament, were waiting for them. They had to withdraw from the match due to injury and the two athletes from Xàtiva were proclaimed champions.

Mª José also added a silver medal, in the B1 women’s doubles, in which he competed alongside Mónica Manrique, from CB San Fernando de València. After winning the different matches, they lost to the duo formed by Elena Barberà and Vanessa Serrano, which left the woman from Setaba and her partner with the silver. Julio also won silver in men’s doubles, who played with Jesús Daniel Trujillo, from CB Bianconero, as Vicente Ferrer recovers from a shoulder injury. Julio and Jesús Daniel made it to the final, in which they competed for gold against Jesús Carmona and José Valentín, and the match began in favor of the Setaban native and his partner, who won the first set 16-21. The second, very even until the final stages, finally fell to its rivals, 23-21. They maintained the momentum in the third set and closed the match winning 21-16, leaving Julio and Jesús Daniel as runners-up.

Finally, José Luis Llopis won bronze in the men’s doubles category C1, in which he competed alongside José Ángel De la Cruz, from CB Laguna. The two surpassed the group stage and reached the semifinals, where they lost to Eloy Javier García and José Carlos Padilla by a double 21-10, thus winning the bronze medal. José Luis also competed in the singles event, although he could not make it past the group stage.

Sports Games in the juvenile category

The young athletes of the Xàtiva Badminton Club competed last Saturday in Enguera in the opening day of the Sports Games of the Valencian Community in the youth category. The club attended with eight athletes, in addition to another five from the Xàtiva Municipal Badminton Sports School, so the city had 13 representatives on this first day. They achieved 62.5% victories in the doubles event, while in singles they achieved 37% victories.

Besides, CB Xàtiva organizes open days during the month of December for those over 18 years of age who are interested in learning about badminton. They will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. and those interested will be able to stop by the Francisco Ballester municipal pavilion and join the adult and technical training group.

In addition, the club participated this Wednesday, December 6, in the II National Women and Sports Clinic of 2023, held in Cheste. The initiative promoted by the Higher Sports Council included Anna Feliu, Marina Fernández and María Jesús Almagro and seeks to improve the knowledge of the players in doubles modalities, in addition to delving into other complementary matters to badminton competitions, such as refereeing .
