For the first time, a German quintet is competing at a World Cup. It’s about confirming Gabriel Clemens’ entry into the semi-finals: The German darts professionals are ambitious for the tournament in London.

The German darts professionals continue to see a continuous sporting upswing.

“It is of course a great development that we are experiencing in Germany. There are not only more players, the sporting successes are also increasing. Gaga (Clemens), Ricardo (Pietreczko) and Martin (Schindler) are having great successes. That’s a great process,” Florian Hempel told the German Press Agency before the start of the World Cup. In addition to Clemens, Pietreczko, Schindler and Hempel, Dragutin Horvat is also taking part in the most important tournament in the world (December 15th to January 3rd).

Confident Pietreczko

Above all, whiz kid Pietreczko, nicknamed Pikachu, expresses his goals for the World Cup in London aggressively. “I’m going to the tournament to win it. That’s what 90 percent of players have in mind. You would be lying if you said: I’m going to the tournament to be eliminated in the third round. You always want to win,” said debutant Pietreczko, who did it in the third round he will face top World Cup favorite Luke Humphries from England.

From a German perspective, World Cup semi-finalist Clemens is considered the most ambitious contender at Alexandra Palace. “The Ally Pally is a good place for him, he beat Peter Wright there and achieved great success. He will take that with him, he knows that too. Anyone who expects the semi-final from Clemens is expecting too much. It should go very well, that he can get to the semi-finals,” said darts expert Elmar Paulke.
